TRAVEL TIPS

Bus Travel

De Lijn operates Antwerp's city bus service; it's an easy system to use. Most lines begin outside Centraal Station on the Koningin Astridplein. All stops are clearly marked with a yellow pole. Single-ride tickets cost €3 when bought onboard or from ticket machines, and are good for use on all forms of public transportation, including trams. Cheaper €1.80 tickets can be purchased via SMS; simply text "DL" for a 60-minute or "DL120" for a 120-minute ticket to 4884 (a list of mobile phone operators that provide this service is available on the De Lijn website). Other options include a day pass (€7 on board, €5 bought in advance); these are available at De Lijn offices, the tourist office, and at some metro stops. Ask for a transit route map at the tourist office or metro stations. Buses run frequently, roughly from 6 am to midnight, with limited night buses on Friday and Saturday leaving from Antwerp South (1:25 and 3:30 am) and Rooseveltplaats (1:45 and 3:30 am).
